₹1400 Crore Budget, Just ₹6 Crore Collection! This Anthony Mackie Film Became Hollywood’s Biggest Disaster

Big-budget movies failing at the box office is nothing unusual. But sometimes, a film crashes so badly that it shocks the entire entertainment industry. One such movie is Desert Warrior, a historical action epic backed by Saudi Arabia that has now become one of the biggest box office disasters ever made.

The film featured some major Hollywood names, including Anthony Mackie, known for playing Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Oscar-winning actor Ben Kingsley. Despite the star power and a gigantic budget, the movie failed to attract audiences worldwide.

The Film That Turned Into A Historic Box Office Bomb

Desert Warrior was officially announced in 2021 by MBC Studios. The movie was directed by Rupert Wyatt, best known for directing Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

Set in seventh-century Arabia, the film followed Princess Hind as she fought against the cruel Emperor Kisra. Anthony Mackie played the role of legendary fighter Hanzala, while Ben Kingsley appeared as the emperor. Actress Aiysha Hart also played a major role in the film.

The makers reportedly spent around $150 million, which is nearly ₹1400 crore, on the film. A huge international crew worked on the project, and hundreds of people were involved in production every day. The movie also remained stuck in post-production for more than two years before finally being released in 2026.

Shockingly Low Earnings Worldwide

Despite the massive investment, Desert Warrior failed to perform almost everywhere.

In North America, the movie earned less than $500,000 during its opening weekend from more than 1,000 theaters. Reports revealed that the movie managed to earn only around $665,000 worldwide, which is approximately ₹6 crore. Considering its massive ₹1400 crore budget, the film suffered one of the biggest financial losses in Hollywood history.

The film also struggled badly in Saudi Arabia and the Middle East, where it was expected to perform strongly. In Saudi Arabia, it reportedly ranked only eighth during its opening weekend.

Why Did Desert Warrior Fail?

According to several reports, poor marketing played a major role in the film’s failure. Many moviegoers said they had never even heard about the film before its release. Critics also gave negative reviews, with the movie receiving a very low score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Online discussions about the film were equally harsh. Some viewers criticised the editing, storytelling, and lack of emotional connection with the characters. A few users even claimed the movie felt more like a streaming release than a theatrical blockbuster.

The film’s long production delays and weak promotion reportedly killed the early excitement around the project. By the time it was finally released, audience interest had almost disappeared.

Even with famous actors and a huge budget, Desert Warrior has now become an example of how big money alone cannot guarantee success at the box office.
