IPL 2026 Disaster for CSK! Ruturaj Gaikwad Fined After Massive Defeat to Gujarat Titans

Chennai Super Kings skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad landed in trouble after being fined ₹24 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during CSK’s IPL 2026 clash against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad. It was the franchise’s second over-rate offence of the season, leading to strict action from the IPL authorities.

According to the IPL Code of Conduct, the rest of the CSK playing XI, including the Impact Player, were also penalised. Each player received a fine of either ₹6 lakh or 25 percent of their match fees, whichever was lower.

The incident took place during Match 66 of IPL 2026 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Earlier this season, Gaikwad had already faced a ₹12 lakh fine for a similar offence during CSK’s match against Delhi Capitals. Since this was the team’s second violation under Article 2.22 related to minimum over-rate offences, the punishment became much harsher.

To make matters worse for Chennai fans, the team suffered one of its biggest defeats of the season. Gujarat Titans completely dominated the match and posted a huge total of 229/4 after being asked to bat first.

Gujarat captain Shubman Gill played a brilliant innings, while Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler also smashed quick runs to put CSK bowlers under immense pressure. The Chennai bowling attack struggled throughout the innings as Gujarat batters attacked from the very beginning.

Chasing the massive target, CSK never looked in control. The batting lineup collapsed under pressure, and the team was bowled out for just 140 runs. Shivam Dube tried to fight back with an aggressive knock, but he received little support from the other batters.

Gujarat bowlers Mohammed Siraj, Kagiso Rabada and Rashid Khan delivered outstanding performances and ensured a comfortable 89-run victory for their side.

The crushing loss officially ended Chennai Super Kings’ IPL 2026 journey. The five-time IPL champions failed to qualify for the playoffs for the third consecutive season, raising serious questions about the team’s future and overall performance.

For CSK supporters, the season ended in disappointment — with both a heavy defeat and a costly fine adding to the frustration.
