If India Builds a Dam, There Will Be War—Bilawal Bhutto’s Big Threat Over Indus Water Treaty

Pakistan’s former Foreign Minister and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chief, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, has issued a direct warning to India, saying that if New Delhi continues to suspend the Indus Water Treaty and goes ahead with plans to build a dam on the Indus River, it could lead to war.

Bilawal made this fiery statement during the 282nd Urs of Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai, at the ‘Shah Latif Awards’ ceremony in Bhit Shah. His remarks come amid heightened tensions between the two countries, following a series of tough measures taken by India after the Pahalgam terror attack, including the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty.

Pakistan Angered by India’s Actions

On May 7, in retaliation for the Pahalgam attack, India carried out airstrikes on nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), completely destroying them. This was a massive blow to Islamabad. However, a ceasefire was declared between the two countries on May 10.

Army Chief Also Warned of Possible War

Earlier, Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi had also hinted at the possibility of an upcoming war, saying it could happen soon and that India must remain prepared. He revealed that during Operation Sindoor, the armed forces were given complete freedom, which played a key role in the mission’s success.

“Operation Sindoor United the Nation”

According to General Dwivedi, the April 22 Pahalgam incident shook the entire country. The very next day, April 23, a high-level meeting of top military and political leaders was called. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, in a stern tone, said, “Enough is enough.”

The Army Chief recalled how the name Operation Sindoor filled the nation with a new wave of energy. At first, he joked that it sounded like Sindhu—referring to the Indus River—and quipped, “Great, you’ve frozen the Indus Water Treaty!” But later, he was told it was actually ‘Sindoor.’
