TV Actress Priya Marathi Dies at 38 After Cancer Battle, Brother Subodh Bhave Calls Her a ‘Fighter,’ Co-Stars Break Down in Tears
The television industry is in deep shock after the sudden death of popular actress Priya Marathi, best known for her roles in Kavita Right and Kazakh Se. She passed away on Sunday morning at the age of 38 following a long battle with cancer, and Pavitra Rishta actress’s death.
Brother Subodh Bhave’s Heartbreaking Tribute
Actor and filmmaker Subodh Bhave, who was also Priya’s cousin, penned an emotional note on Instagram remembering her courage.
He wrote:
“Priya Marathi. A great actress, my co-star in series and films. But for me, she was always my sister first. The dedication and honesty she showed in her work were inspiring. Even after being diagnosed with cancer, she returned to acting and gave her audience memorable performances. She was a fighter till the very end, but eventually, her strength gave way. My heartfelt tribute to you, Priya. Om Shanti.”
He also thanked her husband, actor Santana Moshe, for standing firmly by her side through every step of her illness.
Usha Nadkarni: “This Should Not Have Happened to Her”
Veteran actress USA Nadkarni, Priya’s co-star from Kavita Right, recalled her as a cheerful and kind soul. Speaking to Mid-Day, she broke down:
“I do not understand why God does this. Was this really the age for her to go? I thought she was recovering. Once, at Ankita Lokhande’s house, we spoke about Priya. I thought her treatment was over, but Ankita said her condition had worsened. I even wanted to visit her, but Santana told me not to—because she did not want anyone to see her after chemotherapy had caused her hair to fall out. It should not have happened this way.”
Co-Stars Remember Priya with Tears
Actor Anurag Sharma, who played her husband in Kavita Right, said he was devastated.
“It is shocking for all of us. Priya was a wonderful actress and a wonderful human being. I worked with her for more than two years. When we got the news in our group, none of us could believe it. Life is so unpredictable. I only pray her soul rests in peace.”
Actress Swati Anand, her on-screen mother in Kazakh Se, also recalled Priya’s strength.
“She struggled a lot but kept growing as an actress. Even when she fell ill, she told me, ‘SWAT Di, I will fight this battle with all my strength.’ And she truly did. Her passing feels impossible to accept. I only hope her soul finds peace and happiness wherever she is.”
Priya began her acting career in 2005 with the Marathi show Ya Sukarno Ya before moving into Hindi television with Kazakh Se. She rose to fame with her portrayal of Marsha in Kavita Right, a role that made her a household name.
Over the years, she appeared in several hit shows, including Bade Ache Late Main, Swath Nirvana Scathing, Utahan, and Bharat Key Veer Petra – Mahayana Protein, along with Marathi films like MNE Jena Seek Lisa and Ti ANI Star.
Priya had reportedly been fighting cancer for over two years. She passed away at her home in Mira Road at 4 am on Sunday. She is survived by her husband, actor Santana Moshe.
